ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. -- Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan got a "rockin'" reception at Oakland University. While supporters applauded Ryan's campaign, they also cheered for a special guest.
Kid Rock stepped out of the musical arena and into the political spotlight Monday throwing his support behind the Romney-Ryan Republican ticket.
"I'm proud to introduce a fellow hunter, a fellow fan of rock and roll and a great Midwesterner who shares a vision not only with Mitt Romney, but also with myself of what would be the best for our state and our country. Michigan, let's hear it for Paul Ryan," Kid Rock said.
An overflowing crowd packed Oakland University's O'rena and the vice presidential Republican candidate did not disappoint. Ryan's message to supporters centered around the economy, job creation and opportunities.
"Being successful in business, that's a good thing. There's nothing wrong with that. We take pride in that. We don't resent that. We don't envy that. We want more of that," said Ryan. "I had the pleasure and the opportunity of touring the Cornerstone School in Detroit today. Talk about opportunity. Talk about getting hope and opportunity to young kids in the inner city who are growing up in an area where they don't have hope and opportunity. This shows you that if we put the right ideas in place, if we remove those barriers to opportunity, people will flourish."
Ryan spoke for about 30 minutes and was very enthusiastic.
Ann Romney is scheduled to be in Michigan on Friday, the day after the vice presidential debate.
