Detroit issues annual call for 'Angels'

Posted: Updated:

Detroiters are getting ready to keep their streets safe during the Halloween holiday by kicking off the annual Angels' Night effort. Organizers putting out the call for volunteers on Tuesday in Southwest Detroit.

For three days and nights from October 29th until October 31st, tens of thousands Angels' Night volunteers will patrol neighborhoods on foot, in cars, trucks and other motorized vehicles.

Comerica Bank Executive Vice President Mike Ritchie says Comerica Bank has supported this effort for the past 13 years, investing $94,000 into Angels' Night and the fight against arson. At Paton park in Southwest Detroit the message was plain,  signing up volunteers keeping the city safe.

Volunteer Minnie Ramirez said, "It's time for us to rise, it's time to get our neighborhoods back, and that's why we volunteer every year."

Last year over 50,000 volunteers hit the streets, as a result the number of suspicious fires dropped 55%.

To volunteer for Angels' Night, call (313) 224-3450 or register online.
