WARREN, Mich. -- Tigers' fan Al Cosgro has painted a giant Old English D on his backyard grass.

Elevation would help the eye appreciate the effort.  Who does Cosgro think will see the logo?  Passing aircraft?  Police helicopters?

"That's what I thought," he said.  "I'm at 696 and Van Dyke, and actually I have a friend the works at one of your competitors who said, 'You do the logo.  I'll have them fly by.'  But they didn't."

Maybe the good Lord himself is looking down smiling and is going to bless the Tigers this year.

"That's an absolute possibility.  I'm all for that," Cosgro remarked.

It took cases of paint and hours of spraying, but the devoted fan said it was worth every white fingertip.

"It's all about the spirit.  I have faith.  I had always had faith.  Even since mid-season when it didn't look like they were going to make it I've had faith."
