A candidate for Oakland County commission has been arraigned on an election fraud charge after his opponent says he's trying to use the name they share to confuse voters.
22-year old John Charles Scott is an Eastern Michigan University student who is accused of petition-gathering irregularities while running for office.
He is in a contest that also includes Republican Commissioner John A. Scott of Waterford Township. The commissioner says the independent candidate is trying to use the similar name to confuse the election process.
The independent John C. Scott was in court on Thursday where a not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf. He was given a $10,000 personal bond and faces a pre-trial later this month before Judge Richard Kuhn.
The charge against him is a misdemeanor punishable by 93 days in jail.
