Bloomfield Twp. police launches public alert app

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

The Bloomfield Township Police Department is going high tech to protect and serve.

The department says it has launched its own app for Droid devices (phones and tablets) to alert the public to a number of situations.

According to a release the app will notify users of everything from severe traffic congestion to serious police situations. The public will also be able to access crime maps, the department's Facebook page and submit crime tips.

Officer Pete Matejcik the department's Community Liason officer says "This is a great took, a way to get information directly to our citizens."

The app is a free download from the Google Play Store. Search 'Bloomfield Township Police.'

The department says the iPhone and iPad versions will be available within a few weeks and will also be free.
