SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) - A group of high school football players have been suspended after photos surfaced online that a father says unfairly depicts them as gang members.

Jason Felix says his son was among the group of freshman football players at Southfield High School who were celebrating a successful season in the photos. "In a situation like this, I feel like they were celebrating, taking pictures," said Felix. "One person puts up his hands in a certain way and the whole bunch gets punished."

School officials confirm to FOX 2 that the group was temporarily suspended for three days while they gather more facts. "Because you take a picture with someone and they throw up a sign does that make all of you guys a bad bunch?" Felix wondered. "No, it doesn't."

Southfield High School has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to gangs. Felix agrees with the policy, but feels that the students should have received some sort of warning before being suspended.

Officials tell FOX 2 the students are expected to return to school on Thursday.
