DETROIT -- "The prostitution, the shootings, the record speaks for itself," said Winfred Blackmon.

He has been the president of the Schaefer 7/8 Lodge Association for years.  They were thrilled when the doors of All Star strip club were padlocked and the liquor license was revoked after years of shootings, murders and the infamous incident involving a 14-year-old girl discovered dancing there.

Now the new operator, Rosas Mexican Foods in Taylor, wants to transfer a liquor license there and reopen.

"It's really bad, and there's lots of drug dealing going on, all sorts of things happening that are bad for business.  Just makes Eight Mile look like a bad place to be," said Ken Snow.

He and Tami Salisbury with the Eight Mile Boulevard Association are adamantly opposed to All Star reopening.

Salisbury says she has a better idea.  How about a restaurant there instead of a strip club?

"We'd love to see a Mexican food restaurant since Rosas Mexican Foods is transfering their liquor license.  We think that the clientel is going to return with the adult club, so we really would like to... provide them options, and we would welcome a Mexican restuarant.  We only have three restaurants on Eight Mile Road in our whole 54 miles of frontage.  We have 80,000 cars a day that traverse Eight Mile Road, so we think it would be a great option for them," the association's executive director explained.

The new operator did not return our call for comment.  A hearing before the Board of Zoning Appeals is set for Tuesday.
