MELVINDALE, Mich. -- A Total Armored car pulled out of the Melvindale Police Department parking lot just hours after a frightening armed robbery at the Metro Gas Mart at Oakwood and Dix.

Workers did not want to talk on camera, but told us two men wearing ski masks got out of their vehicle just before 9:00 a.m. and demanded cash from the armored car driver while a third suspect waited in a dark-colored Chevy.  We're told the thieves were armed with nine millimeter handguns and also stole the armored car driver's weapon.

Melvindale police also refused to talk on camera, but told us the robbery was caught on the gas station's surveillance video.  So far that video has not been released.  Investigators are reviewing it and looking for leads.

We've also learned that a large amount of cash was stolen in the heist.

In the hours following the robbery, it appeared to be business as usual at the busy gas station, which remained open with a steady stream of customers.

A representative from Total Armored Car in Detroit declined to comment, but we're told their workers were making a routine bank pickup at the time of the heist.

It's not clear whether the suspects had been watching the gas station or were familiar with the armored car's route.

Gas station employees told us it all happened fast.  Thankfully no one was hurt.

Anyone with information should call Melvindale Police.
