ROSEVILLE, Mich. (WJBK) -- Police will tell you a Roseville neighborhood on the 17000 block of Common is safer this week after James Garrison was arrested as part of a sting to track down and nab registered sex offenders who have failed to comply with the rules.

Police Chief James Berlin says six people were arrested out of the 135 homes that were checked.  Garrison was picked up because he was living near Roseville High in a school zone.

"Pretty much just blew off the entire act all together, and I don't know if he felt that we wouldn't be out checking on this or what his rationale was, but we take it very seriously here in Roseville," Berlin said.  "If they're in our town, they'll be checked on a regular basis."

Police also went to 60-year-old Dale Patrick McCarthy's home on Elizabeth to see if he was complying and say they found something else altogether.

"He opened the door.  I don't know if he just didn't think for that five seconds.  The officers walked in the door.  The turned and looked to the right and there's drugs, and as they searched the home, they found additional drugs and packaging material, et cetera," Berlin explained.

We're told the etceteras included three pounds of pot and some cocaine.

The United States Marshal's Service and the Michigan State Police helped in getting these men arrested.  Meanwhile, the police chief had this message to other sex offenders who live in Roseville.

"The goal behind this is to... keep them on their toes, that we are watching, we're making sure that they're complying with all the terms and conditions of the sex registration act."
