ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (KMSP) -

After a year in Kuwait, 18 men and women of the Minnesota National Guard were reunited with family Sunday afternoon for an extra special Veterans Day.

The soldiers are from the 147th Human Resources Company out of Arden Hills. They ran the theater gateway for the past year over in Kuwait, responsible for processing thousands of other soldiers and making sure they got their proper rest and relaxation and other requirements while deployed.

"There is no way to describe the feeling right now it's unbelievable ," says Specialist Eric Egginger. "I didn't know any of these people were going to be here I thought it was just going to be my mom here."

Instead Egginger was created by a crowd including his nephews, sister, and friends.

Egginger is one of the 18 soldiers who returned from the 147th Human Resources Company.

"The soldiers of the 147th Human Resources Company received numerous accolades and commendations for their hard work, performance and positive attitudes while coming together as a team during our time away from families and friends," said Army Sgt. 1st Class Ezra J. Schoenike, supervisor for the group stationed in Kuwait.

"Our soldiers deployed to multiple areas in both Kuwait and Afghanistan," said Schoenike. "We had the chance to participate in a historic event in assisting with the troop drawdown in December 2011 for thousands of soldiers in their redeployment through Kuwait back to the U.S.

"It's overwhelming," says Specialty Anita Playle "Any day we come home it's a success. To come home on Veterans Day. It's very special."

27 soldiers from the company remain in Kuwait and are scheduled to return next month.
