Rockaways residents taking the temporary ferry service to Manhattan will be able to park for free, the city announced.

After Superstorm Sandy damaged the subway line to the Rockaway Peninsula, the city teamed with Seastreak to provide ferries to Manhattan until train service is restored.

Starting Thursday morning, ferry riders can park for free in a lot across Beach Channel Drive from the new Rockaway ferry landing. National Grid helped secure the lot for commuters.

Ferries depart the Rockaways regularly during the weekday morning rush hour from Beach 108th Street and Beach Channel Drive, stopping in Lower Manhattan with free transfers to East 34th Street.

Return ferries regularly depart from Manhattan during the weekday evening rush.

The one-way fare is $2.
