Armed robbery suspect connected to fatal Oak Park hit and run accident

OAK PARK, Mich. (WJBK) -- A 22-year-old armed robbery suspect could spend the rest of his life in prison after he was connected to the unsolved hit and run death of an Oak Park woman.
Police say Eric Brown of Royal Oak was charged last month after he robbed a Wixom woman at knifepoint in the Aldi parking lot on the 23000 block of Greenfield.
The victim was able to give police a partial license plate number, a description of Brown's car and picked him out of a lineup. "It was through the investigation of (the robbery) that we were able to link him to this prior crime," said Lt. Samantha Kretzschmar.
It was back in April when police say 78-year-old Rita Mazur was struck and killed by a vehicle behind the same Aldi in Oak Park. Police say the vehicle was driven by none other than Brown.
"I hope this person will have time to be alone and think about what he did with his life and other people's lives and maybe he'll change for better," said Rita's daughter Viktoriya Strumbam.
Brown was in court Tuesday for a preliminary exam on the armed robbery charge, as well as a new charge of fleeing the scene of an accident causing death.
"I was very grateful that Oak Park police department was so thorough with their investigation and so careful with the details."
