DETROIT (WJBK) -- Geraldetta Thompson admired the Pentastar engine she'll be helping to build at Chrysler's Mack 1 Engine plant Thursday.  Laid off now, she's coming back when 250 new jobs are added to increase production -- a nearly $200 million dollar investment in Detroit.

"I just want to thank all of you for what you do every day.  You have not given up on this company.  We will not give up on our city," said Mayor Dave Bing.

He joined Chrysler Group Chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne as he outlined plans for two other plants -- a $40-million investment at Trenton North and a big announcement for Warren Truck.

"One thousand new jobs on a third crew at Warren Truck Assembly plant in March of 2013."

There was a round of applause for a company that's continuing to add jobs since emerging from bankruptcy.

Despite the bleak outlook so many had just a few years ago, Marchionne said since 2009 Chrysler has invested $4.75 billion in the U.S. and added 6,000 hourly jobs.
