DETROIT (WJBK) -- The Michigan Humane Society says ten horses in differing degrees of neglect and ill health have been rescued from a warehouse in an industrial area on Detroit's west side.
"It is appalling to see the callousness that some have toward these beautiful animals," said Debby MacDonald, MHS Chief Cruelty Investigator. "Thankfully, these horses will not have to suffer without care any longer. We are very thankful to our partners on this rescue because without them, these horses would not be in a safe place receiving lifesaving medical treatment."
We're told MHS' cruelty investigators teamed up with Detroit Animal Control to remove the horses. An investigation is ongoing.
The humane society estimates veterinary care and housing for the animals may cost as much as tens of thousands of dollars. If you would like to make a donation to help defray the cost, contact the Michigan Humane Society at 1-866-MHUMANE or visit their website at www.michiganhumane.org.
