The singer changed, but the song remained the same in the Kilpatrick, Inc. corruption trial Thursday, and the melody goes something like this: Bobby Ferguson ripped me off.
Detroit contractor Thomas Hardiman was relieved to finally be headed home after what seemed like an eternity on the witness stand -- five days, not that anyone was counting.
But while the witness changed to Hardiman's former partner at Lakeshore Engineering, the testimony was pretty much the same -- Avinash Rachmale told the court that he paid Bobby Ferguson $1 million to keep him happy.
Ferguson, dressed for the weather and debonair as ever, has always said he earned all the money he got and his lawyers agree.
In the meantime, expect Rachmale to tell more tales about how he included Ferguson in deals only to keep him from getting upset, something that could trigger a call to his powerful friend, Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, who could kill Rachmale's water department deals.
I wouldn't be surprised if the defense team, once again, brings up the fact that Lakeshore was still working with Mr. Ferguson long after the so called "climate of fear" was over. You got to ask when you see that, how fearful were they?
