Usually a 37 year old free agent is a guy who is coasting towards the end of his career, but based on what we saw today during his welcoming press conference at Comerica Park-- Torii Hunter is going to be quite different. Hunter joked with the media, G.M. Dave Dombrowski and Tigers owner Mike Ilitch too and it was like a breath of fresh air. Hunter strikes me as a guy who still has the passion for excellence and will be a fine addition to what's going on with Detroit. I liked the idea that this is his final push for a ring after 9 years with Minnesota and the last 5 with the Angels, plus his skills in the outfield are the perfect thing to shore up a big defensive hole in right field. Another positive with Torii Hunter is the numbers-- Hunter's .313 batting average and his 16 homers and 92 rbi's mean that when the Tigers take the field in 2013 the team will have the first 5 hitters in the lineup all capable of batting over .300..... just think, Austin Jackson at .300, then Hunter at .313 followed by Cabrera at .330, Prince Fielder checks in at .313, and even though Victor Martinez was injured in 2012 he hit .330 in 2011. Talk about murderer's row!! Perhaps we should be adjusting that term to not only reference the 19?? Yankees, but the 2013 Tigers as well. Get your tickets now because we could be on the verge of another trip deep into the postseason.
