Israel has increased its aerial assault but that has not slowed the rockets being launched from the Hamas-ruled Gaza strip.
The Israeli army is moving tanks and armored vehicles to positions along the Palestinian territory, which could mean a ground invasion is imminent.
Right now there are no known threats against any sites in New York City but as a precautionary measure, the NYPD has increased its presence at the Israeli Consulate and at local synagogues.
With the conflict between Israel and Gaza rising – so does the amount of police officers at various synagogues throughout the city.
Near the Israeli Consulate, dozens of protesters gathered for a "Free Syria" demonstration but the chants for Syria became shouts of support for Palestine.
"Palestinians right now, especially in Gaza, are under siege they are an occupied territory," said Ibrahim Mossalam.
Saturday marked the fourth day of fighting as Hamas and Israel continue to fire rockets on each other. Israel is pounding Hamas by air and says it intercepted a Hamas missile that was targeted for Tel Aviv.
Israel says it's trying to convince Hamas to stop the fire but it's also preparing for a ground attack.
"We'll do everything necessary to protect our population like every normal country should," said Avi Dichter, Israeli Minister of Civil Defense.
"Just because I am supportive of Israel doesn't mean anybody in America should be treated like this," said Israel Blum.
Manhattan store owner Israel Blum fought twice in the Israeli army but never dreamed he'd be attacked here in New York.
Saturday morning Blum found graffiti by his Ace Hardware front door that reads: ‘Gaza 2 million imprisoned under fire.'
"It's not afraid, disgusting feeling... to be treated like this... it's not right," said Blum.
Hamas says 45 Palestinians have been killed and over 300 hundred have been wounded. In Israel, three civilians have died and 63 have been injured.
The President of Egypt said Saturday night that there could be a cease fire soon after meetings today with political leaders of Hamas and other Gaza factions.
The White House says it is working behind the scenes to de-escalate he violence but it adds that Israel has a right to defend itself.
