(WJBK) -- This holiday season, there are a number of ways you can help the Michigan Humane Society bring hope and help to animals in need.
CJ Bentley from MHS has the following ways to help:
Monetary donations are always needed, of course, to immediately fund the work rescuing and caring for animals in need. But not everyone is in the position to help out that way.
The Michigan Humane Society operates a free pet food bank, providing pet food to qualifying low-income owners to help "Keep Families Together" during difficult economic times. Thousands of families are currently enrolled in this program, and it is saving lives.
This program relies on the generosity of the public, and we are in need of dry (unopened bags, please) or canned food. Donations can be dropped off at MHS in Detroit, Rochester Hills and Westland during regular adoption hours. For large donations of more than 10 bags, please call to schedule a drop off time so we can be ready.
We always need of donations of used towels for the animals.
A new way you can Go Green and Help Animals in Need is by donating your gently used clothing and shoes at an MHS donation bin (see graphic). MHS receives a cash donation for each pound of items donated.
MHS clothing donation bins are located at several area businesses, as well as the MHS Rochester Hills Center for Animal Care (3600 W. Auburn Road), the MHS Berman Center for Animal Care in Westland (900 N. Newburgh), and at Petco in Sterling Heights (13701 Lakeside Circle).
Ask friends and family to collect their old towels and unneeded clothing, too!
