ATLANTA (AP) - James Vincent tied a Georgia State record with nine blocked shots as the Panthers won their home opener, 62-49 over Monmouth (N.J.) Monday night.
Vincent, a 6-foot-10 senior, helped force Monmouth into a miserable shooting night. The Hawks (1-3) made just 15 of 54 (27.8%) from the field.
The Panthers (1-2) made 51.2% (21 of 41), led by Devonta White's 16 points and R.J. Hunter's 14.
Vincent, who also had five points and eight rebounds, tied the Georgia State record set by Sylvester Morgan, who blocked nine shots against Mercer on Jan. 23, 2005.
After leading 30-23 at halftime, the Panthers opened the second half with a 3-pointer and a jumper by White, then a 3-pointer by Hunter for a 15-point lead, 38-23.
Monmouth was led by Andrew Nicholas' 10 points.
The game was part of a four-team, 3-day round-robin portion of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.
