Prosecutors say Kwame Kilpatrick's pal, Bobby Ferguson, used his influence to cancel contracts awarded to other companies. Defense attorneys now believe they've blown that argument out of the water.
Darryl Latimer (pictured) is the deputy director of the Detroit Water Department.
Latimer testified that contracts get canceled all the time. He said the contracts Lakeshore complained about were technically never officially awarded.
Defense attorneys then turned the tables on Lakeshore officials.
They testified for more than a week that they hired Ferguson because they feared his city hall connections, but under cross examination, Latimer acknowledged that some city officials were concerned Lakeshore used their contacts in the water department to help them get deals.
