DETROIT (WJBK) -- Tiny shards of glass are the only evidence of a failed attempt to blow up a firehouse on Detroit's east side.  Late Saturday night, a man with a Molotov cocktail in hand came to the door.

"Somebody tried to come through (the) door... and when they couldn't get in, they threw something which appeared to be glass with some type of Molotov cocktail rag in it up against the building," a firefighter at Engine Company 58 says.  "He had peeked out the window and saw somebody getting into a car on the corner... and taking off."

The firefighter also says eight of his brothers were inside at the time.

"It's not safe out here sometimes for us, unfortunately," he says.  "It was laying here when they came out.  So arson and police came out.  There was a police report filed.  Arson is supposedly investigating."

Fire investigators tell me they have no leads on who would do such a thing or why, but until this person is caught, the whole neighborhood is keeping a watchful eye.
