ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) -- Another slow start wasn't going to be accepted by DePaul coach Oliver Purnell.

After being forced to rally from a 14-point deficit to beat Chicago State on Wednesday, Purnell watched his team take control against Milwaukee in the opening minutes on Sunday.

Donnavan Kirk tied a career high with 14 points and Jamee Crockett added 13 points and six rebounds to lead DePaul to an 84-50 rout and the team's fourth consecutive win.

The Blue Demons (6-3) used an early 14-0 run to jump out to a 21-8 lead. Moses Morgan made two 3-pointers and made a nice pass to Cleveland Melvin for an alley-oop dunk during the span.

"I thought we came out with a hard edge and grabbed the game by the throat. We had a little bit of a lull 3 or 4 minutes in the first half. We took a timeout and the guys really stepped back on the gas and sprinted into the half. Then we sprinted out of the second half. I loved their attitude, businesslike and with a defensive mindset," said Purnell.

Brandon Young scored 13 points and Melvin finished with 11 points and three blocks in a game where DePaul led by as many as 41. The Panthers beat the Blue Demons last season.

"They beat us here last year; it is a little bit of payback. We're just really trying to grasp our home-court advantage," said Worrel Clahar, who had a career-high 10 assists. He also had four points and eight rebounds.

DePaul held Milwaukee's leading scorer Jordan Aaron to six points on 2-for-11 shooting. Paris Gulley led Milwaukee (3-7) with 14 points.

"We broke off a lot of things to play one-on-one basketball and as a result we were beat pretty bad," said Milwaukee coach Rob Jeter. "Any sport there is that one guy that can control a lot of things and you need that person to play well and we just have to find a guy on our team to do it. I don't like to pinpoint any one guy because it is the entire team. We have to figure out ways to pick each other up. We need anyone to do it, just someone and we're not getting it right now."

The Blue Demons held Milwaukee to 25.8 percent shooting and forced 17 turnovers.

"They were up on us 48-28 last year and beat us here pretty good, so it was good to come back and get them here and certainly show some improvement from last year but more important show some improvement from the last game," Purnell said.

Frustration set in for Milwaukee when J.J. Panoske was called for a technical for slamming the ball against the floor after he was called for a foul. Melvin extended DePaul's lead to 28-11 on a pair of free throws. The Blue Demons led 45-27 at the half.

Freshman Durrell McDonald had a layup and Clahar found Kirk for a layup to put DePaul up 72-37 with 8:17 left.

Gulley had 12 points in the first half while Crockett and Melvin each scored nine points before the break. DePaul held Milwaukee to 29 percent shooting in the half.
