The Atlanta Falcons are doing their part to make it a merry Christmas for some less fortunate kids. Tight end Tony Gonzalez and quarterback Matt Ryan were among the players to participate in "Shop with a Jock" Tuesday at a Walmart in Suwanee.
The event gave 40 kids the chance to go Christmas shopping with the star players.
"At Christmastime, it's fun to get out and get some presents and have a good time," Ryansaid.
Gonzalez carried the tradition over from his time with the Kansas City Chiefs. He teamed up with Action Ministries of Atlanta four years ago to brighten the holidays for disadvantaged children. He says he knows what it's like to have a rough childhood.
"Yeah I can relate. When I was younger we went through a time when we were on welfare and a lot of these kids are those type of kids, less fortunate," Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez brought his own daughter out for the event.
"So shecan learn at a young age that it's important that we go out there and pay itforward and make sure that we can give these kids a Christmas that they'll neverforget, hopefully," said Gonzalez.
Each child was slated to have a $100 limit on toys, but many players used money from their own pockets to help out.
The children, who ranged in age from 6 to 14, were also given a meal and a gift card courtesy of Walmart.
