DETROIT (WJBK) -- Detroit police said thank you to a special group of people Wednesday morning as officers from the eastern district hosted senior citizens to a community breakfast.
Keeping crime down on the city's east side can be a tough job, but officers say their relationship with the seniors is a great way to keep an eye on the neighborhoods. "It's a two-way street," says Officer Brad Hawkins. "We help them out. They help us out."
"I've cooked so many years for them," says DPD volunteer Marjorie Henry. "It's nice to know that I can sit down and eat. It's their turn. It's beautiful. I appreciate it."
Along with breakfast, seniors were treated to a performance from the Detroit Academy of Arts & Sciences choir.
"They're our eyes and ears," says Commander Steven Dolunt, who thinks the seniors deserved some praise for their efforts.
