PHOENIX -
A lot of parents will do almost anything to protect their children. Now in the wake of the Connecticut school shooting, that includes buying bulletproof backpacks.
One company says they refuse to profit from this tragedy, so they're selling the backpacks at cost.
Who would guess that a Disney princess and Marvel's Avengers backpacks are bulletproof? Well, they are.
Is that something you would be interested in buying?
"That's the first I've heard of it, but with the times the way they are and I have a 3-year-old..by the time he comes a teenager, I might," said Heidi Klomhaus, a concerned parent.
Amendment II, a Salt Lake City based company, has sold a record number of the bulletproof backpacks for kids.
The concept came up as things happened in schools..children need protection as well," said Amendment II's Rich Brand.
Brand says the back lining of their backpacks are bullet proof and able to stop a bullet from a .357 Magnum.
The backpacks cost about $300. Amendment Two says they've sold more backpacks in the few days than they usually sell in three months.
"Our armor was being bought to protect people..the 'preppers' as they're termed...and at this point, it's transcended to everyone, anyone who is sending their child out into the world, seeing what can happen now, they want to protect their children," explained Brand.
The company has been so bombarded that their web site and phone lines keep crashing. But not every parent believes a bullet proof backpack will protect their kids.
"It really doesn't address the true cause of the problem," said a concerned parent.
Another parent added, "That's not gonna protect my daughter..being mindful and being aware..and I'm home schooling her."
Amendment II says they might start making bullet proof vests for kids too.
