NOVI, Mich. (WJBK) -- 62-year-old Timothy Murray kicked out by the Detroit Archdiocese eight years and barred as serving as a priest now faces federal charges for downloading child pornography.
Agents busted into his home on Old Orchard in Novi during a raid earlier this week.
Murray used to serve at St. Edith in Livonia. One parishioner remembered how he left in disgrace.
"They just told me something with little boys and him, and you know that's not right, so that's all I really knew," said Liz Danger.
Homeland Security agents honed in on Murray back in May when they traced pornographic images to his computer's IP address.
According to an affidavit, Murray admitted having about 500 images and videos on his home computer, and he admitted to investigators he views child porn weekly.
"He already got caught for it awhile back. For it to happen again, it's not that shocking if it already happened once," Danger said.
The archdiocese issued a statement saying, "It is deeply troubling to hear a complaint of this nature regarding anyone who has served the Catholic Church as a priest. (Fr. Murray) was removed from public ministry eight years ago because of what a review board determined to be a 'substantive allegation' of sexual misconduct with a minor."
Those allegations involved a young boy and dated back 30 years.
If convicted, Murray will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars.
