CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -- The massacre in Newtown has motivated one local child to do something nice for underprivileged kids.  He's declaring Saturday "Sandy Hook Day", and he wants everyone to get involved.

One week ago, the nation mourned.  20 children were murdered in their classrooms at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

"I felt like I had to do something," said Noah Hudson-Peralta.

He is a sixth grader at L'Anse Creuse Middle School in Clinton Township.  When he learned of the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, his heart ached.  He wanted to help in some way.  It came to him while he was out Christmas shopping with his dad.

"Me and my dad are starting this thing called 'Gifts for 20' where a kid donates a gift and gives it to Toys for Tots on Saturday in honor on the kids who lost their lives," Noah said.

So he started collecting toys -- trucks for little boys, dolls for little girls.  His baseball team joined in.

"I'm happy when I help other people, so I hope they're happy when they do, too," Noah explained.

"Obviously, it's not going to heal anybody, but our goal is to donate these gifts on behalf of the kids that passed and carry on their memory," said Ryan Hudson-Peralta, Noah's father.

Noah's spirit of giving is catching on.  They now have a website and a Facebook page.  His message of love is helping to overshadow a horrific act of hate, and who better to deliver that message than a little boy with a big heart.

"If other kids could learn from him or do something as great as this, it will all add up and it would be really great," said sister Myranda Rees.

"It makes me feel like I did something good today," said Noah.

You can drop off a new, unwrapped toy at any Toys R Us or Babies R Us location through Saturday.
