Storm-affected NY family gets ornaments from Obama

Posted: Updated:

NEW YORK (AP) - A family whose Staten Island home was damaged in Superstorm Sandy has received Christmas ornaments from the White House.

The New York Post reports an aide to President Barack Obama personally delivered two ornaments to the Ingenito family after the newspaper wrote about the fallen spruce tree that the family turned into a makeshift Christmas tree on their sidewalk.

The family decorated the tree with debris salvaged from the storm.

Joe Ingenito tells the newspaper that one ornament depicts Santa Claus holding a big red bag in front of the White House. The other ornament is a vintage car with a passenger wearing a top hat.

Ingenito says the gift is a "once-in-a-lifetime" honor.
