The weather out east is not only creating problems for people on the ground and on the roads. It's also making a mess of air travel.
Thousands of flights have already been canceled, and for one valley family, those cancellations are putting a very special homecoming on hold.
Beth Ann Cooley's son finally got military leave this year for the holiday. But about 3 a.m. Wednesday, she got the dreaded call that his flight would be delayed. She waited hours in Terminal 2 -- and our cameras were there to finally capture the reunion of Cooley and her son and two grandsons.
"We came to pick up her son, he's in the Air Force, and he's on leave getting ready to go to Afghanistan so he's coming in with our two grandsons," says Beth Ann.
Cooley could hardly believe her son, who's been away for the last few Christmases, finally got the time off. Her family hasn't all been together for the holidays in 4 years.
"It's everything for us."
But Cooley has been on pins and needles. Her son and his kids had been delayed in Florida for several hours. Then delayed in Houston for 6 more.
Over 1,800 flights were canceled in the past 48 hours, and Cooley feared her son's flight would be scrapped too.
"We got the call that he's on the flight and now he's on his way here... This is just a dream come true, every mom wants this."
A reunion just in time for the holidays, before her son Chris serves another 18 months in Afghanistan.
"It's been a long time since I've seen my family, so it's absolutely worth it," says Chris Cooley.
Out of Sky Harbor, flights heading to Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Dallas are delayed.
