An 83-year-old Chicago man fought off a would-be carjacker 64 years his junior despite being kicked in the head, choked, punched and bitten, according to police.
Oak Park police said the elderly man stopped to assist a young man who was sitting in the middle of the 1100 block of West Garfield Street about 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 29, Pioneer Press is reporting.
When the man got out and bent over the prone teen, he was grabbed by the back of his head, pulled to the ground, kicked in the back of the head, then choked.
Police said a witness who called 911 said the victim fought back against his attacker, identified by police as Knox Jones, 19, of the 4900 block of West 30th Place in Cicero.
The 5-foot-7, 130-pound Jones is accused of punching the victim repeatedly, then biting him on the right ear, both hands, and lower forearm. Police said Jones then broke away from his riled-up victim and jumped behind the wheel of his car, which was running.
The witness told police Jones stepped on the gas and the car revved loudly, but didn't move as it was in park. The older man was then able to pull Jones out of his car, and Jones walked away as police arrived. He was arrested less than a block away.
He was charged with aggravated battery of a person over 60 and aggravated vehicular hijacking. He was ordered held on a $250,000 bond.
