Chicago Police executing a search warrant Saturday at a Southeast Side candy store found illegal drugs and arrested a worker for drug possession.
Gloria Estrada, of the 8200 block of South Houston Avenue, was arrested Saturday and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of cannabis, according to a release from Chicago Police.
The search of the store recovered four knotted bags of crack cocaine and 20 smaller bags of cannabis, as well as proceeds from narcotics sales, the release said.
Police received information that drug sales were allegedly taking place inside the candy store in the 3000 block of East 83rd Street while investigating violence in the area, according to a statement from Chicago Police.
Officers surveilling the store arrested two suspects earlier in the week for possession of cannabis and crack cocaine, police said.
"Drug spots like this contribute to violence in our communities," 4th District Tactical Lieutenant Kevin Milmine said in the statement. It is deplorable that a store of this type was used for drug sales, and it is tremendous work by my tactical officers to shut them down."
Estrada is scheduled to appear in court Sunday.
