Robberies, burglaries increase in West Town

Several robberies and burglaries occurred last week in the West Town neighborhood on the North Side, police said.

The robberies occurred at 4 a.m. Tuesday in the 2500 block of West Cortez Street and at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of North Oakley Boulevard, according to a community alert from Area Central detectives.

The suspect is described a black man with a medium complexion, in his 30s and 160-180 pounds, the alert said.

Homes have also been burglarized while residents were away in the area, the alert said.

The burglaries occurred at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 1000 block of North Hermitage Avenue; at 1 a.m. Wednesday in the 2000 block of West Cortez Street and 3:30 a.m. Thursday in the 2000 block of West Division Street, the alert said.

A description of the suspect was not known, the alert said.
