It is amazing what a smart phone can do and the list keeps growing longer and longer every day.
Verizon Wireless sent over a box of gadgets to the FOX 5 Studio to test for the Tech Check segment. They are pushing mobile accessories to meet the needs of their customers with everything from a remote for your appliances to a GPS dog collar.
That dog collar uses a GPS device to track the dog that's wearing it. If the dog leaves the yard, a text message will appear on the associated smart phone and will direct the owner using a mapping system to where the dog is currently.
For those more worried about someone getting in, there's the Belkin NetCam Wi‑Fi Camera with Night Vision. Set it up and connect to any Wi-Fi network. If it senses motion, it will send an alert to the associated phone and even allow the user to pull up streaming video.
The personal favorite of FOX 5's Doug Evans is Belkin's WeMo Switch. It allows the user to turn off and on electrical outlets inside the user's house. It can be used on everything from lights to curling irons to fans. It is great for those who are forgetful in turning off certain appliances or for cold nights where turning a heater on before getting home can be helpful.
The Griffin HELO TC Remote-Control Helicopter adds a live-action fun to your smart phone. It turns a smart phone into a remote control for a model helicopter. It works on both Apple and Android devices.
There are also plenty of sporting devices which can connect to a smart phone with everything from a device to analyze a golf swing to counting steps and calories burned in a day.
