Riders on Metra's Union Pacific-Northwest line had a real headache of a commute today after a car crash and unrelated rail problems delayed trains Monday evening.
The problems started about 3:15 p.m., when a train struck a vehicle in Arlington Heights near East Davis Street and Arthur Avenue, said Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile.
Officials had no reports of injuries as of Monday night, but the train was stopped for about 50 minutes because of the crash, Reile said.
Later in the evening, crews found a section of rail near Arlington Heights in need of inspection, Metra's website said. Three trains -- Nos. 655, 653 and 64 to Harvard and Crystal Lake -- are running about 20 to 55 minutes late, and all trains running through the area will be operating at restricted speeds.
The rail problem is unrelated to the previous crash, Reile said.
Arlington Heights police investigated the collision but could not be reached for comment Monday night.
