Southern congressman reconsiders Sandy aid support

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

In an apparent about face, a congressman from Mississippi is now supporting the $51B superstorm Sandy relief bill up for a vote next week on Capitol Hill.

Rep. Steve Palazzo (R-MS) reportedly declared his "unwavering commitment" to back the funding for Sandy ravaged areas after visiting several of them on Staten Island and the Jersey Shore.

The Gulf Coast congressman felt some backlash after not supporting the bill when his stand on relief needs for Hurricane Katrina victims was publicized.

Back then, Palazzo reportedly pleaded with "our national leaders… to send us money.. to rebuild our community."

The plea was for his home state of Mississippi, much in the same way local lawmakers have staunchly fought to bring needed aid to people trying to recover from the devastating storm that hit the northeast.

The aid package needs four votes to pass.
