Power out at Northeastern University, ComEd working to restore

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A power outage has affected scattered customers on the North Side, the biggest of which is Northeastern Illinois University.

ComEd told FOX 32 News a cable fault may have been the cause of the outage Tuesday night, when an initial 597 customers were affected. That number was down to 16 customers by Wednesday morning.

Northeastern's campus went dark overnight and cancelled classes early Wednesday. School was back in session by midday.

However, the university said they can produce their own electricity and the north side of campus had power Wednesday. The child care building, physical education complex and smaller buildings are still without power.

ComEd is currently working to get the power back on, and is supplying generators to Northeastern.
