He's back!!! That's right, Henrik Zetterberg is back on the practice ice in Troy and for Red Wings fans, there's no better signal than that to begin the season. Zetterberg's return to America comes after spending the lockout in Switzerland, where he was skating for EV Zug in the Swiss league for the last 3 months. The trip had an added benefit, because Zetterberg was able to skate on the same line as Damien Brunner. The same Damien Brunner that will now be a part of the Red Wings. That experience with a new player should be invaluable as both players will hit the ice running...... speaking of hitting the ice, Valterri Filppula looks ready to do that too. Filppula suffered a sprained MCL while he was skating in Finland, but after talking with him today, he assured us media types that he's ready to go and is suffering no ill effects.
Other players on the ice included Kyle Quincey, Johan Franzen, Patrick Eaves, Drew Miller, Ian White, Todd Bertuzzi, Brendan Smith, Justin Abdelkader and Jonathan Ericsson just to name a few, and to a man, everyone is ready to get the season started. A season that Kyle Quincey likened to a "fire drill" with 48 games in just 103 days. If that's the case, then the Red Wings better perform like the fire department!!-- and be ready as soon as the alarm bell rings in St. Louis on the 19th of January.
