Phoenix Herp reptiles kept warm by heaters, blankets

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

They may be cold-blooded, but the reptiles at the Phoenix Herpetological Center are looking to cozy up.

Staff will be pulling all-nighters, working to heat crocodile pens and moving many other reptiles from their outside home into a temperature-controlled building.

Volunteers began warming heating pens for the reptiles early Friday morning to ensure their cold-blooded friends were safe from a deep freeze.

A volunteer team kept an around-the-clock eye on the gators, snakes and turtles, bringing in blankets and heaters.

"Out here in north Scottsdale were looking at probably the mid-20s, much too cold for reptiles to be comfortable and happy. We have to provide them with heated shelter, as far as tortoises go and any other lizards and the crocodilians have to have warmer heated water," says Daniel Marchand.

The Wildlife Center is also protecting their mammals. Leonardo the leopard also got a nice heater for his den.
