PHILADELPHIA -
Some riders along SEPTA's Broad Street Line Sunday opted to ride without pants as part of the international "No Pants Subway Ride."
The effort, where passengers ride subways across the country and around the world without their pants, was created by the group "Improv Everywhere."
On the Improv Everywhere website, organizers boast 60 regional subway rides where riders boarded trains and took off their pants Sunday.
Philadelphia, New York, New Orleans and Boston were among the dozens of cities expected to participate in this year's event.
Riders in Philadelphia were seen entering the Broad Street line Sunday afternoon with pants, but when the subway rolled out of a Center City station, several passengers quickly removed their pants for the ride.
People of all ages took part in the Philly "No Pants Subway Ride" event.
Organizers say the effort started in 2002 with seven riders, all men, who entered a train without pants and rode it for seven stops. The riders pretended not to notice each other and claimed they "just forgot" pants if asked. On the 8th stop, organizers say another passenger came through carrying a bag and offered to sell ants for $1.
The event has continued since then, in what Improv Everywhere calls an "international celebration of silliness."
