EAST LANSING, Mich. (WJBK) -- With the rising cost of higher education, more and more Michigan students are looking for a "Sugar Daddy" to help to foot the bill.
According to a release, college student memberships increased by 58 percent on SeekingArrangement.com, which proclaims itself as the world's largest Sugar Daddy web site. The average co-ed "Sugar Baby receives approximately $3,000 a month in allowances and gifts from her Sugar Daddy, enough to cover tuition and living expenses at most schools," the statement added.
Michigan State University is the state's fastest growing university with around 300 totals members and 133% growth compared to last year. At the University of Michigan, 177 students signed up to meet somebody rich; 152 at Eastern Michigan University and 159 at Wayne St. University.
"Michigan is very popular and trending among college students," said Leroy Valasquez, a spokesman for SeekingArrangement.com, who notes that college co-eds make up 40 percent of the site's users.
So why so many college members? According to FOX 2's Andrea Isom, the site offers free premium memberships to students signing up with a .edu e-mail address.
"I think it's a great idea," said one MSU student while FOX 2 cameras were rolling. Others, didn't agree. "It seems kinda like prostitution almost," said another student.
"We do advise that members set their terms at the very beginning of the relationship," said Valasquez.
In 2012, Georgia State University was the fastest growing school with 292 new members.
