NYPD releases video of subway sex assault suspect

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A brave woman fought off an attacker who robbed and tried to rape her as she was leaving a subway station in Brooklyn. But what he didn't bank on was that a surveillance camera captured a clear shot of his face.

A 22-year-old woman was walking out of the Lorimer Street station about 2:35 a.m. Sunday.

Police released a video showing a woman go through a turnstile, followed by a man who police say grabbed her from behind, sexually assaulted her, and took off with her phone.

Police sources said the suspect reached for her tights and tried to pull them off, but she put up a good fight and scared him away before he could rape her.

Cops say he was wearing a red hoodie and dark colored pants. He is believed to be in his 30s and about 5 feet 9 inches tall.

The attacker stole her cell phone, which will help detectives track him down.

Call 800-577-TIPS if you have any information.
