2 People Accused Of Filing Insurance Fraud In SEPTA Bus Incident

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office on Thursday announced that it had filed charges against two people who are accused of sending SEPTA thousands of dollars in medical bills after a March, 2011 incident involving a bus and a van.

The DA's office says a SEPTA bus was struck by a white van on March 30, 2011 in the afternoon in the area of 20th and Market streets in Philadelphia.

Two people, Zahirah Gray, 21, and 48-year-old Lannette White, allegedly claimed they were seriously injured as a result of the accident.

After reviewing surveillance video of the incident, an insurance fraud detective confirmed that there were no movements made by the bus that would explain the injuries claimed by Gray and White.

The DA's office says SEPTA also received claims on behalf of both Gray and White for thousands of dollars in medical bills for alleged injuries.

The two face Insurance Fraud and Attempted Theft by Deception charges, the DA's office said. Both have since turned themselves in to the DA's office.
