Clinics everywhere experiencing flu shot shortages

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -

It seems like Arizona's flu season went from zero to 60 in just a matter of weeks. Because the flu outbreak seemed to get so bad, so quickly, people are rushing out to get flu shots.

The demand for flu shots is almost too great right now -- and flu shots are getting hard to come by.

That's because people are all of a sudden deciding to get a shot after hearing how early and widespread the flu season has been this year.

"Tough for us, because probably a month ago we couldn't convince anyone to get this while we had it, and as soon as it starts to get into the news everyone is looking for it and now it's in short supply," says Steve Meyers, Walgreens Pharmacy manager.

Why the shortage? It takes manufacturers several months to develop the vaccine.

The CDC reports they made 135 million doses, and so far have distributed about 112 million.

FOX 10's Britt Moreno reports from a Walgreens Pharmacy, where they just got a new shipment in.
