The Following set to premiere on FOX 5

ATLANTA -

It's one of the most buzzed-about shows this year. Movie star Kevin Bacon comes to the small screen as a former FBI agent who just can't escape his job. The Following premieres on FOX on Monday.

Along with Bacon, the show also stars James Purefoy, with appearances by FOX 5 anchors Tom Haynes and Lisa Rayam.

The pilot was shot in Atlanta. Penned by Kevin Williamson, it traces a former FBI agent and his hunt for a serial killer, and that killer's cult of followers.

"I was [going to] write it as a movie, then I was [going to] do it as a TV show, then as a movie again, and until I figured out the cult aspect, and brought that into it, then I went, oh, that's a series," said Williamson.

Bacon says he'd been looking for a series for years, but this is the one that snagged him.

"I really liked the heroic nature of it, but given the fact I was [going to] play a hero in it, I wanted to do someone who was damaged, was a mess," said Bacon.

Though shooting has moved to New York, the rest of the cast says Atlanta was a memorable start -- for the most part. Actress Natalie Zea visited what she called a thing "with all the animals in it." Then she remembered it was fish, and with Paul Milliken's help, it was determined she had visited the Georgia Aquarium!

The Following premieres Monday at 9 p.m. on FOX 5.
