Conn. panel convenes hearings on guns and public safety

Posted: Updated:

The massacre in Newtown, Conn., on December 14, 2012, prompted Gov. Dannel Malloy to convene an advisory commission to review policy in hopes of positive change.

In Newtown the flowers have faded but the crosses are still fresh. Green and white ribbons are posted on Yogananda Street, where killer Adam Lanza and his mother lived. Their old home is boarded up and empty.

Malloy said time has not faded the desire for change.

The entire country was shaken to its core by the tragic events that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

In Hartford on Thursday, Malloy's advisory commission met for the first time.  The goal:  review current policy and make recommendations on school safety, mental health and preventing gun violence.
