CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Feeling brave? Jump into Lake Michigan with the Lakeview Polar Bear Club. You can also take a barre class at a new Gold Coast studio or take the kids to Disney on Ice, reports Time Out Chicago's Marissa Conrad.
Friday-Sunday
The latest character from the magic kingdom to make her ice debut is Merida of Disney-Pixar's Brave. Rock out to a Scottish jig as a group of royal contenders try to woo the sharpshooting princess, while a chorus of hooligans from Tangled gets everything in a frenzy when paying a visit to the spirited Rapunzel and her friend Flynn. Of course, there's no beating the classics, as Belle and the Beast skate together in magical bliss. Disney on Ice presents Rockin' Ever After Allstate Arena, 6920 N Mannheim Rd, Rosemont (ticketmaster.com, 800-745-3000). Fri 10:30am, 7pm; Sat–Sun 11:30am, 3:30pm, 7pm; $20–$86.
Saturday
Noon; registration 11am. $35. Last year at this frosty leap into Lake MIchigan, the Lakeview Polar Bear Club raised $28,000 to support two local families with children suffering medical ailments. Help them beat that goal, then join them post-plunge at Sedgwick's Bar & Grill for a $30 open bar with complimentary appetizers (1:30–4:30pm). 12th Annual Lakeview Polar Plunge Oak Street Beach (lakeviewpolarbearclub.com).
Saturday
Five is the lucky number for this fitness studio, known for using dance conditioning principles to train and tone muscles. The Gold Coast location, opening Saturday, marks Bar Method's fifth outpost in the city, and it's celebrating five years in Chicago. New clients are getting lucky, too: Take advantage of a five-week unlimited class special for $100 through February 10. The deal is also good for folks who haven't been to a class since 2011.
