One more thing, about some commercials you're going to be hearing a lot about.
I'm not talking about the Super Bowl ads. It's the new advertising campaign for Chicago's public radio station, WBEZ and it's not what you'd expect.
You'll start seeing the ads Friday. "We want interesting people to hook up with interesting people and make more interesting people." "We want listeners tomorrow, go make babies today." Another ad reads, "Do it for Chicago."
The station is calling it their 2032 membership drive. The campaign encourages listeners in their 20s and 30s to "make babies" so that in 20 years they'll have more much needed younger listeners.
But if those teenagers were born into a public radio-loving family, they might be persuaded to keep listening, even through their teenage years.
Are they serious? No, of course not. But, they need to create loyalty among the young 25 and under Chicagoans who are not aware of NPR and WBEZ. They're smart enough to realize a message from Garrison Keeler isn't going to cut it. They need to do something outrageous that people will talk about. So far, mission accomplished.
If this doesn't work, maybe Rick can play Justin Bieber music.
