Former Dback Mark Grace sentenced to jail in DUI case

Posted: Updated:

Former Diamondbacks player and announcer Mark Grace will spend four months behind bars. The 48-year-old pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and endangerment on Thursday.

We caught up with Grace as he walked out of court.

Mark Grace says he believes in accountability and he wants to take responsibility for his actions. He'll report to jail on February 10. He'll be allowed out of jail for work – working with the Diamondbacks, who have re-hired him.

Per terms of his plea deal, Grace was sentenced to four months in jail.

"Because of a poor decision, my children are going to be without dad for four months and that's the biggest thing I regret," says Mark Grace.

Grace was arrested for DUI back in august. This was his second DUI arrest in 15 months. At the time, he was supposed to have an interlock device on his car and he didn't. Grace told a judge he's getting alcohol abuse treatment.

"[Treatment is] going well, I'm good, I'm doing good," says Grace. "I know that drinking and driving is a very dangerous thing to do and that's the lesson that I learned."

Grace worked as an announcer for the D'backs. He was fired after his second DUI arrest. Thursday in court, we learned the team has re-hired Grace as a coach.

"Four months that I can't be with my children, four months I can't be with my friends and family and it's all because of, you know, it's my fault."

We asked him if he thought he got a softer sentence because he's Mark Grace.

"Like I said, I lost my job, I'm going to lose my freedom. This ain't a free ride," he responded.

When Grace is finished serving his sentence, he will be on probation for two years.
