MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

Friday was the coldest morning in two years in the Twin Cities and much of Minnesota, but temperatures started rising with the sun.

In Minneapolis, the actual air temperature was -13 at 7 a.m., with a wind chill of -25. In far northern Minnesota, air temperatures were near -30, with wind chills in the -50 range.

Jan. 21, 2011 was the last time Minneapolis was hit with such severe cold temperatures. It was -16 on that day.

"Officially it is stupid cold" FOX 9 chief meteorologist Ian Leonard said.
