Upgrade to a new device? Sell the old one for cash

Posted: Updated:

Gadget lovers are always eager to get their hands on the latest smart phones -- but what do you do with your leftover device?

People in the valley are turning their old cell phones into quick cash.

People like the sound of owning the latest smart phone. Early adopters are eager to pick up the latest iPhone or the new blackberry. But as buyers move on to bigger and better gadgets, leftover devices are cluttering up desk drawers.

"My phone was working perfectly, it just didn't have some of the upgrades so I decided to upgrade but it left me with a perfectly good phone," says Stephen Harris.

He even tried giving it away, but friends and family had upgraded too.

"I just went online to find out are there people who want to buy my phone."

He found the site U-Sell, where they'll match you up with buyers who could pay anywhere from $80 to $100 for an old cell phone.

"U-Sell brings you buyers and they brought me at least 5 buyers from $115 all the way to $85."

You find a buyer on the website, mail off the device, and receive the money by check, PayPal, or direct deposit.

"You don't have to have a lot of technological understanding," says Harris.

But one thing you need to know how to do is wipe all the data off the phone. Don't forget to erase your personal information from any device you sell.

"If they got the phone with all the information on there, it would be very dangerous."

U-Sell doesn't just deal in phones. The site helps people sell old iPods, laptops, and tablets, as well as game consoles.

No matter who buys any device from you, always remember to erase all your data.
